Margarita Karapanou was born in Athens. Raised between Greece and France, she studied cinema in Paris before returning to Athens and being employed as a nursery school teacher. Her books Cassandra and the Wolf, The Sleepwalker, Rien ne va plus and "Yes" ("Oceanida" 1999) have appeared in translation in the USA, France, Sweden and many other countries. In 1988 France honoured The Sleepwalker with its Prix national du meilleur livre étranger.
